Call for Members

The Brooklyn Torch project is looking for interesting, motivated folks with ideas to share in building a local currency. We meet weekly to discuss plans for our next steps. Meetings are on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30pm in Greenpoint. Please email the committee to find out how to attend. We’re looking for writers, thinkers, organizers, doers and action heroes!

Call for Designers

Brooklyn Torch is looking for designers for the paper currency to be used in our North Brooklyn alternative currency project. If you are a local designer interested in community projects, we are looking for you! This should be a fun project, evoking local pride in our borough and engaging a sense of humor as well as clear monetary detailing. We have a few graphic designers on deck, but are still looking for designers interested in system design and overall branding or image design.

Participate
We also need participants at every level. In order for this project to succeed, we need as many local enterprising folks as possible involved. If you are interested in being any of the below, please contact us at committee [at] brooklyntorch [dot] org

Steering Committee
Brooklyn Torch Project needs volunteers to help plan and implement the currency. We are looking for a diverse network of contributors. For example, if you are someone with experience with large scale civic planning, or a local organizer, we are looking for you.

Local Business Owners
If you own a local business in North Brooklyn, please speak to us about joining the network. We would love to list your business among our participants and send trade through your doors.

Local Printers
We are looking for local printers to collaborate with the Brooklyn Torch Project to print a counterfeit proof paper bill set. Our printers will collaborate with our designers and steering committee to print enough bills for both our launch and ongoing minting.
